I Love Harry. I saw him 5 times in concert. At one of those concerts, Harry Chapin opened for Little River Band (can you believe that?) at Red Rocks in Colorado.
It was raining and everyone was under their umbrellas and blankets when Harry came out on stage, shaking his fist at the clouds. My buddy and I unfurled a large banner we had made that said “There only was one choice”. Harry saw it and waved us down and told us “There’s more of me in that song than in anything else I’ve written.” We knew that.
I don’t think we ever had a celebrity that was not a celebrity, but was one of us, like Harry. He raised the bar for how we all should be and I fall painfully short.
