I discovered Harry’s music when I moved to Canada from California in the summer of ‘79.Oh, I had heard Harry’s top 40 singles, but I mean I really found the meaning in the music and the man, when I bought “Short Stories”. To put it simply, my life changed.
I had no direction, no desire, no…..meaning. Harry, and his music, changed that. I finally understood that I was responsible for what happened in my life. I stopped blaming people for my unhappiness, and took Harry Chapin’s advice.” When in doubt, DO SOMETHING”. So I did.
He inspired me, and to this day continues to do so. I was fortunate enough to see him once in London. Ont. Canada, sometime in 1980. He said he felt so good that night that he planned on kissing all the girls after the show……even the ugly ones! I bought a World Hunger Year shirt, said hello and got an autograph. A short year later…..he was gone.
I can’t express how saddened I was, how saddened I still am, and will always be. To say I miss him, is a gross understatement. I play his tapes all the time and my four year old son is now a fan also. My son’s name, by the way………Harry. Rest in peace. The world is a lesser place without you.
