I am what seems to me to be something of a rarity !. Not only am I someone in Britain who has actually heard of Harry Chapin, but I’m relatively young (21). I’ve never met anyone my age who knows Harry.
My admiration for Harry started when I was very young. We never had a car, we always used to travel everywhere in a motorbike and side-car. Throughout the long journeys our constant companion was Harry’s ‘Sequel’. I must have heard the album 200+ times and it always sounds so good. I have seen the difficulty some people have with finding this album, so I’m especially grateful my copy has survived the many playings !
I do feel sad though that I was too young to see Harry or even know more about him, but I’ll always remember his songs accompanying the journeys of my youth, where every motorway was the ‘Northwest 222’….Alfie.
